Next time some dudes try and give you the old “omg men are objectivized and sexualized in comics too,” show them these.

If this don’t get the point across, three words: TOM. OF. FINLAND. (NSFW, even SafeSearch is useless! >:D)

Okay, here’s the thing: Men ARE objectified and sexualized in comics. They wear skintight costumes and are super beefy. The argument is NOT “men aren’t sexualized,” the argument IS “women are sexualized and objectified to a much higher degree and to a greater detriment because there are creators who believe that a set of double DDs in a tube top counts as character development.”

No question female characters have it worse, but to deny that men are sexualized and objectified ignores a truth you can use to build your argument. Such as, “Yes, men are objectified and sexualized, but it’s built from the idea that superhero men are powerful and strong. However, the way women are objectified and sexualized is generally done in a way that depowers the characters either through back-breaking poses you hardly (if ever) see men in, or through ridiculous costumes such as the Star Sapphire uniforms. If the other corps can all choose their own uniforms, why are the Sapphires stuck with one very revealing costume? Because they’re all women. Now, let’s look at that further.”

(And, on a purely objectifying note: Heeeeeel-oooo, ginger bruiser.)

although I would say that even these pics are less objectifying than their female counterparts in these types of arts.  Even in these the guys look epic and powerful in their stance

And I think that’s part of the conversation to have. Even when the men are in their skin tight clothes or shirtless or whatever, they’re still regularly in more powerful poses than their female counterparts.
